As part of Egypt’s drive to localise renewable energy industries, SCZone Chairman Mostafa Shekhoun attended the foundation‑stone ceremony for Sungrow’s $50 million energy storage assembly plant in Ain Sokhna. The project, the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa, will create over 100 jobs and focus on training local cadres and transferring advanced technology.
Shekhoun said the factory reflects confidence in the investment climate of the Suez Canal Economic Zone and deepens Egypt‑China economic ties. The Electricity Minister described it as a step towards completing Egypt’s integrated renewable manufacturing base, while the Defence Production Minister highlighted its role in supporting clean energy industries and opening new export markets.
Industry Minister Khaled Hashem called the project a qualitative leap for Egypt’s clean energy manufacturing, enhancing grid stability through advanced storage solutions. Sungrow’s Vice President praised Egypt’s support, noting the plant will serve as a regional hub for clean energy across the Middle East and Africa.
This milestone underscores Egypt’s commitment to green economy transition, localising advanced technologies, and strengthening Egypt‑China industrial cooperation.
