
Ismailia security authorities have detained under police guard the drivers of two pickup trucks involved in a horrific collision in the El-Dawawis area, near El-Qassasin. The crash resulted in 18 deaths and 29 injuries, mostly among agricultural workers, Youm7 reported.
Both drivers, who were also injured in the crash and are currently receiving medical treatment, were found to double as labor transport contractors. They were driving the two trucks at the time of the impact. Security forces placed both men under guard at local hospitals, pending their recovery, before legal proceedings and formal investigations proceed.
The tragedy unfolded when the two vehicles carrying farm laborers collided head-on in El-Dawawis. Fleet ambulances rushed to the scene to transport the 29 injured passengers to Ismailia hospitals, while the bodies of the 18 deceased workers were transferred to New El-Qassasin Hospital.
Security and executive officials quickly secured the crash site to restore traffic flow, while relevant authorities oversaw medical care and the release of the victims’ bodies to their families.
