Chelsea cruised past League One side Luton Town in the Carabao Cup second round on Thursday to set up a meeting with old rivals Leeds United in the next round.
Danny Welbeck marked his debut for the Blues by scoring the opening goal in the second half, before winger Estevao’s cross was turned into his own net by Hatters defender Hakeem Odoffin.
Xabi Alonso has now won both of his games since taking charge of the London side over the summer, although the Spaniard’s side only have three days to prepare for their first Premier League home game of the season – against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
Ahead of that game, it has emerged that the Blues have held talks about a possible move to sign a highly-rated Ligue 1 midfielder.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea held talks with French side Monaco on Thursday to discuss a possible move for midfielder Lamine Camara.
Current Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been at the centre of one of the biggest transfer sagas of the current summer window, and looks increasingly likely to depart Stamford Bridge before the window shuts.

With that in mind, Chelsea are exploring possible replacements for the Argentine, and Romano suggests that 22-year-old Camara is one of their possible targets.
Camara joined Monaco from fellow French side FC Metz in 2024 and has since played a total of 74 matches for his current club across all competitions.
He has built a reputation as one of the best central midfielders in the French top flight, but his performances haven’t gone unnoticed and Chelsea are seemingly considering a move to sign the player.
Camara’s current contract with Monaco is set to expire at the end of the 2028/29 season.
