Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Hani Sewilam discussed with Mongolian Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Tsagaankhuugiin Iderbat ways to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise in water resources management, amid growing challenges facing the water and agriculture sectors and the importance of sound water resources management in supporting food security and sustainable development.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of Sewilam’s participation in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) in Mongolia.
Sewilam outlined the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation’s vision for implementing the second generation of Egypt’s water management system (2.0), which seeks to develop water management through integrating engineering and technological solutions, improving water-use efficiency and expanding reliance on modern technologies in managing water resources.
The two sides also underscored the importance of maximizing the return on each unit of water and improving water-use efficiency, particularly in agriculture.
