Avengers: Doomsday is a movie in which Marvel will dump out almost its entire toybox full of characters. We already know that it will be bringing together characters from the Avengers, Black Panther, The Fantastic Four, and Shang-Chi. Additionally, much of the original X-Men cast will appear. Beyond the names who have already been announced, it’s a sure thing that we’ll get some surprises. For example, based on surprise appearances at San Diego Comic-Con and D23, it seems like a sure thing that both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will be suiting up as (respectively) Deadpool and Wolverine. And the post-credits scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day heavily hints at his own high-profile cameo.
Now, it seems, we have another iconic Marvel actor more or less confirming their appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. Recent pictures of Doctor Doom’s helpers have ignited major internet speculation because they are all masked, concealing their true identities. Many fans are convinced that one of these characters will be Sylvie, the female Variant of Loki. Now, that theory has gained some major traction: after a fan asked Sylvie actor Sophia Di Martino if she’d be playing a “Latverian Witch” on Instagram, she liked the post, implying the fan was on to something.
She’s Back To Save The Day (Or Maybe Just Save Herself)

It all started with an Instagram post that, at first glance, has nothing to do with Marvel. Sophia Di Martino posted a picture of herself painting something, and she captioned it “working on something a bit different.” Thanks to the extreme close-up, it’s hard to tell what she’s painting; at a glance, it just looks like orange splotches. Notably, however, one of Doctor Doom’s mysterious helpers is wearing an orange robe and a mask. This caused one fan to comment on the actor’s picture with a simple question: “Latverian Witch?” The fan probably wasn’t expecting a response; nonetheless, Di Martino liked her post.
Obviously, simply liking a fan’s post isn’t a smoking gun in and of itself. It’s possible that the Sylvie actor is just happy that somebody was thinking of her. Nonetheless, the fact that she liked the post, combined with the orange mystery painting matching the orange Latverian Witch, has some fans thinking Sylvie is definitely returning in Avengers: Doomsday. This has been rumored since Tom Hiddleston’s return as Loki was confirmed. Plus, Di Martino’s Sylvie stunt double was previously spotted in London while Doomsday was shooting, which further fueled speculation about her return.

Maybe all of this is wishful thinking. Still, nobody can deny that Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie character was one of the most entertaining parts of Loki. Plus, her character was at the center of the first major Marvel story to deal with the destructive possibilities of the Multiverse. Avengers: Doomsday doubles down on that idea with a plot about entire universes colliding with one another and wiping out trillions of lives. When we last saw Loki, he was doing his best to keep the tangled Multiverse stable. Who better than his own chaotic double from another universe to help Doctor Doom bring the whole thing crashing down?
