Manchester United will hope to put their 4-2 defeat against AC Milan in a friendly last time out behind them when they face Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils were beaten convincingly by their Italian counterparts on Saturday, with former United boss Ruben Amorim now in charge of the Serie A outfit.
Current United manager Michael Carrick oversaw huge improvement when succeeding Amorim midway through last season, and the ex-England international will hope to see his side continue that progression during the upcoming campaign.
With that in mind, it appears that those steering United’s transfer policy are considering a shock move to sign a Bundesliga striker.
As per CaughtOffside, Manchester United are exploring a possible move to sign SC Freiburg forward Igor Matanovic.
The report suggests that the Red Devils have identified the 23-year-old as a possible target as they look to bolster Carrick’s attacking options and provide competition for current striker Benjamin Sesko.
Joshua Zirkzee remains a United player at present but the Dutchman has struggled since arriving at Old Trafford and the report suggests he could still leave the club before the end of the current window.
Matanovic, 23, joined Freiburg from fellow German side Eintracht Frankfurt last summer and scored 15 goals in 50 matches in all competitions during his debut season with the club.
The Croatia international was part of the squad that represented his country at the World Cup earlier this summer, but failed to score in any of his three appearances at the tournament.
The report claims that those in charge of United’s recruitment have internally discussed a possible move for Matanovic, but it isn’t yet clear whether or not the club will make an official move to sign the player.
