Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said preliminary investigations indicate that a fire which broke out aboard two vessels at Damietta Port on Wednesday was caused by a drone, adding that authorities are continuing their inquiry to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
Speaking during the government’s weekly meeting in New Alamein City on Thursday, Madbouli said the relevant authorities would take all necessary measures to safeguard Egypt’s national security and protect its interests.
He stressed that operations at Damietta Port remain stable and are continuing at full capacity despite the incident.
Shipping traffic, including the arrival and departure of vessels, cargo handling, container operations, and the movement of dry and liquid bulk cargo, is proceeding normally in line with approved schedules, Madbouli said.
Electricity services at the port have also remained unaffected, he added.
The prime minister noted that the ministers concerned reviewed the coordinated efforts undertaken by government agencies to contain the fire aboard the two ships and restore normal operations.
He highlighted the close cooperation among the relevant ministries and authorities in responding to the incident.
