WASHINGTON \u2014 Last week, pharmaceutical leaders filed into a meeting room in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, next to the White House, for a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and HHS Chief Counsel Chris Klomp.<\/p>\n

The administration officials had a message for the industry: It\u2019s time to bring production of essential medications back to the U.S. \u2014 or at least closer to home.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The meeting, described by an administration official and two people familiar with the event, focused on increasing U.S. control of the supply chains for the 86 medicines deemed essential by the health department\u2019s Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response.<\/p>\n
