E.U. trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Wentao, vowed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/statement_26_1480\" target=\"_blank\">joint statement<\/a> on Monday to balance the relationship and address market access issues.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-7a45fe\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cChina\u2019s exports to the E.U. keep rising, while our market share in China keeps shrinking. This trend is not sustainable,\u201d Sefcovic said after talks with Wang in Brussels, adding that he wanted \u201ctangible results\u201d on narrowing the $412 billion trade gap by the time he visits Beijing in October. The E.U. has meanwhile stepped up barriers to trade, imposing a flat 3 euro customs duty this month in a measure targeting low-cost Chinese goods from platforms like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/consumer\/bargain-gifts-temu-come-cost-quality-rcna182807\" target=\"_blank\">Temu <\/a>and AliExpress.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-52530f\" class=\"body-graf\">Chinese companies such as Midea have adapted their air conditioners to suit conditions in Europe, where high installation costs, a lack of qualified technicians and strict regulations for historic buildings have hindered their use.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-482b0c\" class=\"body-graf\">Midea says it has seen \u201crobust sales growth\u201d in Western Europe, with air conditioner sales in France, Spain, Germany and Britain up more than 70% compared with a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-5af664\" class=\"body-graf\">Factories in China are working around the clock to ramp up production of Midea\u2019s PortaSplit model, which the company <a href=\"https:\/\/news.futunn.com\/post\/65261464\/midea-demonstrates-comprehensive-sustainable-hvac-lineup-at-c-r-2025?level=1&amp;data_ticket=1783064034347736\" target=\"_blank\">says<\/a> is easy to install and \u201caccommodates a wide range of European window types.\u201d It says it has shipped 200,000 units to Europe this year, double the number it did last year.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-7151d5\" class=\"body-graf\">The PortaSplit is so popular that a German software developer <a href=\"https:\/\/braucheklima.de\/\" target=\"_blank\">created a website<\/a> to help users track the availability compared with the first week of June, Chinese financial publication Yicai reported, citing data released by the platform on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-aa4d11\" class=\"body-graf\">Chang Pudong, a salesperson at a Hisense store in Beijing, said his company\u2019s air conditioners were \u201cselling extremely well in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-d5a9e4\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cHisense has been developing overseas production lines and expanded into overseas markets quite early on,\u201d Chang, 22, told NBC News in an interview Thursday. \u201cAnd throughout its process \u2014 from R&amp;D to manufacturing and sales \u2014 it has adapted both its technology and design to suit both the European climate conditions and their aesthetic preferences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-4e7290\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cI think overseas consumers can also see that our prices are relatively lower, and they have a wider range of choices available to them,\u201d he Hotline\u201d to try to keep up with the surge in orders.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-47375a\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThey usually use us to ship snacks, clothes and shoes,\u201d said Wang Zairong, a manager at the Shenzhen-based firm, \u201cbut right now, everyone\u2019s focused on solving the heat wave problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-8572ba\" class=\"body-graf\">Wang said the company had seen a sharp increase in orders for portable air conditioners, receiving more than 1,000 inquiries since last week from countries including Britain, France, Germany and Italy.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-36c6f3\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cAs of now, we have received about 100 units in our warehouse, and that number is growing by about 40 to 50 units every day,\u201d he said in an interview Thursday.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-640e32\" class=\"body-graf\">Compared with last year, when Wang said the company shipped  about 10 units, \u201cthis year we are seeing 10 to 20 times growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-e88066\" class=\"body-graf\">He said there had also been an increase in shipments of other products such as portable fans, car shades and cooling mats for pets.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-566968\" class=\"body-graf\">It\u2019s also been a sweltering summer in Beijing, where there was a severe heat warning on Friday as temperatures reached as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-43b5f8\" class=\"body-graf\">A Beijing resident surnamed Li said her Xiaomi and Gree air conditioning units had been \u201crunning almost all day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-4fea93\" class=\"body-graf\">Li, 40, said she was surprised about the lack of air conditioners in Europe.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-37f664\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cMy impression is that they\u2019re very advanced over there,\u201d she said. \u201cI can\u2019t really imagine a situation where people don\u2019t have air conditioning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p
