Chinese President Xi Jinping is <\/span>expected<\/span><\/a> to make an official visit to Egypt in the coming days for talks with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, according to a statement from the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency.<\/span><\/p>\n

The visit will be Xi\u2019s <\/span>first<\/span><\/a> to Egypt since his trip to Cairo in 2016, and it comes as Egypt and China mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the visit, Xi and Al-Sisi are <\/span>set<\/span><\/a> to discuss ways to strengthen their strategic partnerships throughout various fields.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In May 2024, during Al-Sisi\u2019s visit to Beijing, the two sides <\/span>launched<\/span><\/a> the Egypt\u2013China Partnership Year, an initiative <\/span>celebrating<\/span><\/a> a decade of their partnership, and reaffirmed the 2024\u20132028 executive programme for cooperation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond diplomacy, economic and defence cooperation has expanded; on 19 August, Egyptian companies <\/span>signed<\/span><\/a> a series of export contracts with Chinese buyers, including agricultural products, textiles, minerals and engineering goods.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, Egypt and China <\/span>launched<\/span><\/a> on 22 August the joint air exercise <\/span>Eagles of Civilization 2026<\/span><\/i>, which includes joint training focused on planning and managing aerial combat operations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Xi\u2019s visit is part of a wider travel plan in the region: the Chinese President will <\/span>attend<\/span><\/a> the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from 30 August to 3 September, then visit Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n
