State Department imposed sanctions on an Italian leftist group that supplies digital support to Antifa and other extremists, including a group in Oregon, according to information released by the department on domestic terrorists.

The group known as Autistici/Inventati, or the A/I Collective is an “extremist group” working with the Rose City Antifa, the extremist pro-abortion group Jane’s Revenge and another Atlanta-based domestic extremist group, the State Department disclosed in a fact sheet on the sanctions.

“Violent far-left terrorist networks, such those targeted today, pose a threat to the United States and our foreign partners,” State Department spokesman Tommy Piggott said in announcing the sanctions Wednesday.

“There will be no refuge for violent extremists who wage war on our civilization and plot to undermine law and order, destroy critical infrastructure, assault political opponents, or conceal their crimes from authorities,” he said.

A/I support has included encrypted chats and email, web hosting, secure video conferencing, and streaming and anonymity shields, according to the department.

The Treasury Department also announced Wednesday that its Office of Foreign Assets Control is handling the financial sanctions on the same groups.

“Far-left extremists, their fronts, and their enablers should be on notice: We will bring the full weight of our economic tools to bear,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on the office website. “Political terrorism has no place in our society, and we will continue to cut the financial lifelines of these groups until they are eliminated.”

Portland-based Rose City Antifa has used A/I Collective’s tools and services to “organize and incite violent and criminal acts domestically, including an attack on Customs and Border Patrol helicopters that led to a federal indictment,” the fact sheet said.

Rose City Antifa has been linked to other violent actions and riots in Portland.

The group used the Italian source’s tools and services “to disseminate doxing lists and release illegally obtained personal information of federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with calls for targeted attacks on ICE agents in the streets and in their homes,” the fact sheet said.

The A/I Collective also provided support to a far-left group Jane’s Revenge that the department said has conducted a campaign of fire bombings in several U.S. states and used A/I’s tools and services to publish its communiques and claims of responsibility for violent and criminal acts.

The goal of the attacks was to incite copycat attacks, the statement said.

Jane’s Revenge was formed after the May 2022 disclosure of a U.S. Supreme Court draft opinion overturning its 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that established abortion as a federal constitutional right.

Four members of Jane’s Revenge have been charged with federal law violations and conspiracy to violate rights through threats of force and intimidation, the department said.

A third U.S. group linked to A/I support was described as an unspecified anarchist cell that has waged a campaign of violence in Atlanta against construction of a law enforcement training center.

That group used A/I tools and services to claim responsibility for violent attacks on law enforcement officers, engage in the release of illegally obtained personal information, and threaten government officials and business owners.

The Atlanta leftist group circulated instructions for making homemade bombs for use against government buildings and local businesses.

“The cell remains active and still uses A/I Collective tools and services to incite violent and criminal acts against government officials, law enforcement, and critical infrastructure,” the fact sheet stated.

Under the sanctions, A/I Collective has officially been labeled a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.

The designation prohibits Americans and U.S. financial institutions from doing business with the group and freezes any assets it has under U.S. jurisdiction. Violators can face civil or criminal penalties.

Mr. Piggott said A/I has supplied digital support for Antifa cells and other radical left-wing networks in the United States, Europe, and elsewhere across the world.

The digital services of A/I are designed to provide far-left terrorist groups with help in organizing, recruiting, communicating and carrying out violent attack “all while remaining beyond the reach of the law,” he said.

“Its tools are frequently used to share target information, tactical manuals and techniques, and communiqués by left-wing militants, including many of the most active and violent Antifa groups in the United States,” he said.

Two other leftist groups were also sanctioned, including the Palestine Action, a group the statement said has supported acts of terrorism, and Masar Badil, a transnational group the department identified as a front for Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network.

The Samidoun network was jointly sanctioned by Canada and the United States in 2024 for operating as a front for the terrorist group Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Masar Badi and Samidoun share fundraising mechanisms and senior leaders, including two leaders added to the sanctions against them, Rawa Alsagheer and Zaid Abdulnasser.

The action Wednesday is part of a Trump administration effort to crack down on violent leftists by declaring them domestic terrorists, a term that is not in U.S. law.

Critics have dubbed Antifa an action arm of progressive Democrats.

For example, in January 2018 then-Rep. Keith Ellison posted a photo of himself on social media holding a copy of “Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook ” before deleting it. He is now the Minnesota attorney general.

After the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in September, Trump administration officials announced plans to target left-wing extremists.

President Trump later that month issued a presidential order designating Antifa a domestic terrorist group and directing federal agencies to disrupt and dismantle its networks and funding sources.

In November, the State Department, based on a lack of law on domestic terrorism, designated four foreign groups as special designated foreign terrorist organizations.

They include Germany’s Antifa Ost, Italy’s Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front, and the Greek collectives Armed Proletarian Justice and Revolutionary Class Self-Defense.

The A/I Collective, Rose City Antifa and Jane’s Revenge could not be reached for comment. Palestine Action and Masar Badi also could not be reached.

A/I stated on its website in response to the sanctions that it was formed in 2001 with those in the “anticapitalist movement” involved in technology and “the digital rights struggle.”

“We react by providing a platform and tools for digital self-defense addressing the need of free communication for activists and other individuals,” the group stated.

Rose City Antifa said on its website that it was formed in 2007 as a coalition opposing “racism and fascism.”

The State Department imposed sanctions on an Italian leftist group that supplies digital support to Antifa and other extremists, including a group in Oregon, according to information released by the department on domestic terrorists.
