Ricky Schroder<\/strong> is facing backlash for his controversial tribute to Dolly Parton<\/strong><\/a> following her death at age 80.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t agree with her advocating for Transgender & Covid Vaccine support \u2026 but Loved her anyway,\u201d Schroder, 56, wrote via Instagram<\/a> on Tuesday, August 26, alongside a photo of him and the late country singer. \u201cThank you for choosing me Dolly to be your Movie Daddy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schroder was seemingly referring to Parton\u2019s advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community as she used her platform to oppose anti-trans legislation. Parton also played a major role in the fight against COVID-19. She made a $1 million donation to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center which helped fund research that led to the development of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n

Parton and Schroeder crossed paths back in 2015 as he played the fictionalized version of Parton\u2019s father in her TV movie Dolly Parton\u2019s Coat of Many Colors<\/em>. He reprised his role for the sequel, Dolly Parton\u2019s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love<\/em>, the following year.<\/p>\n

Several social media users flocked to the comments section to slam Schroder\u2019s post.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow \u2026 you should have said nothing,\u201d one user wrote while another responded, \u201cCouldn\u2019t just pay tribute to a beautiful person. Had to make it about yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lioness<\/em> star Jay Huguley<\/strong> also criticized Schroder\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018I loved her anyway\u2019 what a strange tribute. Good Lord,\u201d the actor, 60, replied.<\/p>\n

Parton died<\/a> on Tuesday following a \u201cbrief\u201d and private battle with an undisclosed type of cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched,\u201d a spokesperson for the late singer said in a statement at the time. \u201cHer unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand.\u201d<\/p>\n
