Manchester United begin their Premier League campaign when they visit newly-promoted Hull City on Saturday.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Devils were beaten 4-2 by Italian side AC Milan in their final friendly of the summer, with former United manager Ruben Amorim getting revenge on his former side.<\/p>\n

New manager Michael Carrick oversaw vast improvement when taking charge midway through last season, though, and the Englishman will expect to see his side start positively against the Tigers.<\/p>\n

Ahead of their season opener, it has been revealed that the Manchester outfit are getting closer to agreeing a deal to sign a Premier League midfielder.<\/p>\n

As per The Athletic\u2019s David Ornstein<\/a>, Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba.<\/p>\n

United were interested in the midfielder last summer, when a figure of \u00a3100 million was touted as a potential price tag for the player.<\/p>\n

Ornstein claims, however, that the two clubs are now in talks after United made an offer of an initial \u00a360 million, plus an additional \u00a35 million.<\/p>\n

While that sum is below the Seagulls\u2019 valuation of the 22-year-old, it is claimed that the two clubs are in talks and working towards an agreement.<\/p>\n

Baleba joined Brighton from French top flight side Lille back in 2023 and has since made a total of 112 appearances for the south coast side across all competitions, including 92 in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

The Cameroon international is under contract at The Amex until the end of the 2027\/28 campaign, but it appears that United have resurrected their interest and are hoping to finalise a deal for the player before the current transfer window slams shut.<\/p>\n

United have already recruited in midfield this summer, signing Brazilian Andrey Santos from rivals Chelsea.<\/p>\n
