The American has made it clear that fights with rising stars like Jaron Ennis would do nothing for his legacy, hence his retirement.<\/p>\n<p>There was, however, one route \u2018Bud\u2019 was exploring before making the final decision. Speaking on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MebR_TYRYuc&amp;t=3698s\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Breakfast Club<\/a>, Crawford reflecting on almost booking a fight against Janibek Alimkhanuly before the Kazakh champion failed a doping test.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cEvery fight that I fought since 2014 has been for something. Either I\u2019m defending my title, or I\u2019m going to conquer another division for a title \u2026 [I said] I\u2019m gonna beat Canelo and I\u2019m gonna see what they do down here [at 154]. Then it came out that Janibek was on performance enhancers. So, that fight got cancelled. I think they stripped him for a title. I\u2019m into making history \u2026 but it didn\u2019t [play out like that].\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/boxing\/articles\/cp89jg3znn8o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alimkhanuly tested positive for a banned substance in December last year before his middleweight unification fight against Erislandy Lara<\/a>.
